Romei Tenor

The Swiss tenor Rolf Romei studied in Winterthur and Karlsruhe and privately with Nicolai Gedda. As a member of the ensemble he was permanently engaged in St. Gallen and Augsburg as well as at the Staatstheater Oldenburg. Guest engagements have taken him to the opera houses of Stuttgart, Darmstadt, Bern, Düsseldorf and Graz, to the Komische Oper Berlin, the Theater an der Wien, the Teatro Real in Madrid, the Edinburgh and Enescu Festivals in Bucharest, the Musikfestival Kampnagel Hamburg, the Ruhrtriennale and most recently to the English National Opera in London. Rolf Romei has been a member of the ensemble at Theater Basel since summer 2006. Here he has performed the title roles in 'Lohengrin', 'Parsifal', 'The Tales of Hoffmann', 'Faust', 'Idomeneo' and 'Pelléas et Mélisande' as well as in 'Rusalka', 'Elektra', Stockhausen's 'Thursday from 'Light'', Korngold's 'The Dead City', Philip Glass' 'Satyagraha' and the world premiere 'Diodati.Unendlich'. In addition to his stage activities, Rolf Romei regularly gives song and chamber music recitals and is in demand as an interpreter of new music as well as a soloist in the great oratorios of the classical and romantic periods. In the 23/24 season he can be seen as Max in 'Freischütz' and as Don José in 'Carmen'.
