Ophelia
Young Dancer

Ophelia Young was born in Harlem, New York City and grew up in a village in Northern Austria. After receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree at Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen, Germany, Ophelia danced full time with Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch for many years. From 2021 until the start at Ballett Basel for season 23/24, she has been working internationally as freelance performer and co-author. Since 2021 she is also working as rehearsal director for the Pina Bausch Foundation and their projects. During her career she has met many inspiring and influencing artists and worked with them as colleagues, collaborators, teachers, directors and friends. Among them are Artmann&Duvoisin, Ben J.Riepe, Dimitris Papaioannou, Jorge Puerta Armenta, L Twills, Magdalena Weniger, Mertixell Aumedes, Mirjam Klebel, Nathalie Larquet, Rainer Behr, Saar Magal, Senga Nengudi, Studio Stefan Jovanović, and Tim Etchells.
